The Foundation

What Is Noorani Qaida, and Why Does It Matter?

If you’ve never come across it before: Noorani Qaida is the beginner’s book used to teach non-Arabic speakers how to read Arabic accurately, before they move on to the Quran itself. It takes its name from the scholar who compiled it, Noor Muhammad, and the word “Qaida,” which simply means foundation or rule.

It isn’t optional, and it isn’t old-fashioned. Every Quran teacher will tell you the same thing: it’s far easier to teach something correctly the first time than to correct a habit that’s already six months old. A child — or adult — who jumps straight into reading the Quran without this foundation will usually mispronounce letters and misapply vowels, and the longer that goes uncorrected, the harder it becomes to fix.

That’s really the whole case for choosing to learn Noorani Qaida online properly, with a real teacher listening to every word: it isn’t about ticking a box before “the real learning starts.” It is the real learning starting.

The Curriculum

What You Actually Learn — Stage by Stage

A lot of academies throw around words like “Tajweed” and “Makharij” without ever explaining what a student actually works through. Here’s the real path, in order.

1

The Arabic Alphabet

This is where you learn Arabic alphabet basics properly — every letter, its name, shape, and sound in isolation.

2

Makharij (Articulation Points)

Where exactly each letter is produced in the mouth or throat — arguably the most important stage of all.

3

Letter Forms

Every Arabic letter changes shape depending on its position at the start, middle, or end of a word.

4

Harakaat (Short Vowels)

Fatha, Kasra, and Damma — the marks that tell you exactly how to pronounce a letter.

5

Madd (Elongation)

The long vowel sounds, and exactly how long each one should be held.

6

Sukoon & Tanween

How letters behave with no vowel at all, and the doubled endings used constantly in real words.

7

Shaddah (Doubling)

Stressing a letter correctly — a small detail that changes meaning if it’s missed.

8

Joining Letters Into Words

Two, three, and four-letter combinations — building real reading fluency, not just letter recognition.

9

Noon Sakin, Meem Sakin & Basic Tajweed

The final stage before a student is ready to move into reading actual Quranic verses with correct recitation.

Every stage builds on the one before it. We won’t move a student forward until a stage is genuinely solid — not because we’re being slow, but because that’s exactly where most self-taught or rushed students end up with permanent gaps.

Every Age Welcome

Noorani Qaida for Kids & Noorani Qaida for Adults

For Kids

Children as young as 3.5 can begin, though most teachers — us included — find that starting between 4 and 5 years old works best. Here, every child gets to learn Arabic letter by letter at their own pace, never rushed to keep up with a group. A noorani qaida course for kids only works if the child actually wants to be there, so our teachers lean on repetition, encouragement, and genuine warmth, not pressure.

For Adults

There’s no age limit on learning this properly. A real portion of our adult students are parents learning alongside their children, converts starting from zero, or people who simply never had the chance growing up. Our teachers treat adult beginners exactly as that — adults, starting from wherever they are, with zero judgement.

How Long Does It Take to Learn Noorani Qaida Online?

Realistic answer, based on regular weekly lessons: adults typically complete it in 2 to 4 months, and children usually take 3 to 6 months, depending on how often they attend and how much they revise between lessons. Students with any prior exposure to Arabic tend to move faster. There’s no fixed finish line built into the book itself — your teacher will tell you honestly when a stage is genuinely ready to move on, not just when a certain number of weeks has passed.

The Real Difference

Why a Real Teacher Matters More Than an App or a PDF

Noorani Qaida is easy to find online as a free PDF or a video series. What it doesn’t come with is someone listening to you and correcting your specific mistakes — and that’s where most self-taught learners quietly go wrong.

Certain Arabic letters simply don’t exist in English, and they’re the ones almost every non-Arabic speaker gets wrong without correction:

ع ح خ غ ص ض ط ظ

Without a teacher actively listening and correcting in real time, these sounds are very commonly replaced with the nearest English-sounding equivalent — and that mistake then gets carried into every single surah read afterwards. This is really the entire case for a proper Noorani Qaida course online rather than a self-study book: not convenience, but correction.

Noorani Qaida with Tajweed

Our Noorani Qaida with Tajweed course doesn’t treat these as two separate things taught years apart. Basic Tajweed rules are woven into the later stages of the Qaida itself, so that by the time a student finishes, they’re not just able to read Arabic — they’re already reading it with correct recitation habits, ready to move straight into fluent Quran reading without a jarring jump in difficulty.

Female Noorani Qaida Teachers

If you’d like your daughter, or yourself, to learn Noorani Qaida online with a female teacher, that’s never a problem here. A female teacher is available for girls, women, or any family who prefers it, at no extra cost. Just mention it when you book your trial.

Simple Pricing, in Pounds

Our Noorani Qaida course online follows the same honest pricing as the rest of our academy — no dollar pricing, no vague ranges, starting from £28/month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers

What is Noorani Qaida?

Noorani Qaida is the foundational book used to teach beginners — children and adults — how to read Arabic correctly before moving on to reading the Quran itself. Most students who learn Noorani Qaida online with us start here regardless of age, since it covers the alphabet, pronunciation (Makharij), vowels, and basic Tajweed rules.

Can I skip Noorani Qaida and go straight to reading the Quran?

We wouldn’t recommend it. Almost every reading mistake we correct in older students traces back to skipping or rushing this stage. It genuinely is the foundation everything else is built on.

What age should my child start learning Noorani Qaida online?

Some children start as young as 3.5, but we generally recommend 4 to 5 years old as the ideal starting point — old enough to focus through a short lesson, young enough to pick up new sounds easily.

Is there an age limit for adults learning Noorani Qaida?

No. We teach adult beginners of every age, including complete beginners and new Muslims. It’s never too late to start.

How long does the Noorani Qaida course take to complete?

On average, 2 to 4 months for adults and 3 to 6 months for children, with regular weekly lessons and consistent revision between sessions.

Do you offer Noorani Qaida online classes in the UK with a female teacher?

Yes. A female teacher is available for girls and women on request, at no extra cost.

What’s the difference between Noorani Qaida and Tajweed?

Noorani Qaida covers the Arabic alphabet, pronunciation, and vowels, finishing with basic Tajweed rules. Full Tajweed goes deeper once a student is already reading fluently. Our course bridges the two so there’s no awkward gap between them.

Do I need to buy a physical Noorani Qaida book?

No. Any materials your teacher uses are provided digitally, free of charge, before each lesson.
